An Old House

Dear old house,

Do not despair.. Although you are neglected you must know that I love you.

I am sorry you have been abused by those who were not worthy...

But I am here now to soothe and to fix you.

I love walking around and imagining who lived here and how they lived.

I think of the people who walked through this door and sat in this living room, who cooked in this kitchen and slept in these bedrooms.

I look at the ceilings and wish they could talk, wish they could tell me of the comings and goings that this old house has endured. The laughter and the tears, the fun and the sadness..

How many children have lived in this house, how many teenage tantrums and weddings have these old walls survived, how many toys were played with on these floors??

I touch the walls and think of your past...

I love you old house, with your bad layout and your crumbly plaster,

I love your uneven floors because they speak of your past.

I love you because you have a history, a heritage, and in your glory days you were loved,

and I promise you I will make you beautiful once again...
